Shrimp Gone Missing Overnight

I also have frozen vegetable food, would they like that?

They would eat peas, ect, but that is not what I meant. They can smell algae waffers, may bring them out of hiding.

Okay, gotcha. I'll grab some today.

Okay, so I finally had time to get some algae wafers from Petco last night! I got out two, plonked them in the tank overnight, and this morning... they were completely untouched.

I know for certain there are at least four shrimp in the tank (I saw four at once on Sunday during the water change), but would all of them really ignore algae wafers completely? Do you think I should try blanched zucchini instead? I used to give it to my otos, but my amano shrimp would go bonkers over them more than they ever did over algae wafers. Good idea, you think?

well it seems you are seeing more than you were before, I would say that there are prolly more still in hiding

True, I think so too. I just wanna know for certain! I wish there was a good way to get a count so I can collect refunds if I need to. I think I'll try the zucchini.

Hard to know if the waffers were "untouched". A shrimp would not and cannot eat a lot.

So the shrimp completely vanished, so I ended up getting a refund and buying new shrimp. These guys have yet to go missing, so I think the old shrimp just all died, and maybe their bodies were in the rocks or something. Thank you everyone for the help!

Pond snails aren't 100% herbivores. They will take other opportunities and shrimp bodies go fast. Algae wafers are actually frequently high in fish meal, fish oils, maybe even some invertebrates... because the critters we feed them to are rarely 100% herbivorous. Tetra does make a veggie algae wafer that is the exception. If they got tucked in the rock before dying they would also breakdown very fast there and you likely wouldn't see a sign of it.
