Starting up Saltwater! Woo!

Well I went to the LFS and asked what that coral was and they said the skeleton was the same as the pink and green one but it got eaten... And they said it was a pytophillia or something like that? Different spelling though.

"brittle starfish! Its pink and white. Im almost certain its a brittle. I could only see one of it's leg but it definatley looked like one.."

could be a bristleworm, if you only saw one "leg". If you see the body itself then you know for sure its a brittle star. With you luck, it'll be 3 brittle stars lol.

Echinophyllia (chalice)? Not sure what "ate" the rest of it.

If the plays are growing on the other's skeleton the only thing you can do is kill the palys or scrape them off at the base using a blade. You may just want to leave it alone for now. If you do scrape them off, put them in a small plastic cup with some small pieces of rubble in a low flow area. The palys will reattach themselves in a few days and you can stick them where ever you want.

Ff, I saw two legs last night :)

It didn't start with E, it started with P and ended in phyllia. Lol. Why can't it grow on an old skeleton of itself? It was eaten by another coral in their display.

I was told I wouldn't have to move the buttons because they are a type of anemone? And they won't sting? Is that true? :P

Oh. The whole thing got eaten but a small bit just grew on it after they moved it :P

It can definitely regrow over the skeleton.

My chalice had some palys under it and their tentacles were brushing up undre it. After seeing this for a couple days the skeleton of my chalice became exposed where the palys contacted it. I have had a mushroom sting an acan as well. Palys are not anemones.

I would not think a paly would eat a chalice but they might irritate it enough that it would recede. I have seen time elapsed video of corals eating each other. Pretty cool to watch.

If you can get a better pic of the coral (maybe top down) might get a better ID. Lots of phyllias out there :)

That luive rock looks great Hay!!!! Now you need a magnifying glass and a flashlight with a red lens...so at night you can turn the lights out and see all the life on it!!!!

Okay, I'll get some pics :)

Yeah I know G!! I see heaps during the day.. Imagine at night! Lol

Here are some pics. You can clearly see the dead skeleton and its growing on the side of it, kind of growing around the 'rim' of the sekeleton. The button polyps are prety much touching it and I can't see any damage so I dunno.

Here you go :) The last pic is the underside of them.
