SUNSUN HW-302 Outside Filter setup & test

Placing my order

OK, Im finally setting up my tank that I thought was an 180g. Turns out its 159g, using the conversion table. Anyway I'm ordering one of these filters tomorrow, I just need to make up my mind on 1 or 2. What do you all think? Do I need an 4 stage with UV or will 1 or 2 "3" stages be fine?

For a tank that size you would need at least four Sunsun's. For a tank that size you are way way way better off buying one FX5 brand-new for only $220 or $230 tops on eBay.

I have it setting up off the ground because of the 2 nozzles that stick out of the bottom. I guest that is where you would connect the hoses. Also I filled it up twice with no leaks:headbang2:

In that case I recommended one of the two filters be an FX5 and the other be a sump with overflow. After having a sump and an FX5 on my 244 tank, I'm slowly adding a sump to my other 210 tank primarily becasue these tanks are so large that besides providing good filtration a sump overflow provides easy automatic top-off water level management and the sump tank help uncluttered aux equipment from the main tank. But when it comes to pure filtration power and performance, for tanks that large the primary filter should be an FX5 because for the price of only $230 nothing else come close in performance at keeping a tank that size clean. With respect to the ratio of performance over cost the FX5 is the best value on the market.

As far as bottom tank hole plumbing and overflow rigging, your going to need a general guide posted on AC or Monster Fish. I know those bulkhead fittings look a bit old and beat-up in the photo.

OK, I did it!!! Took your advice and bought a FX5 used on Ebay for $120, yep thats $120 with free shipping.
 
Id congratulate you but Im a little upset you bought my bargain FX5 on ebay that I have been checking almost every day but apparently missed :cry:. But there always another deal out there.;) Hope it is in good working order, as with all used filters there is always a chance something is not working, on FX5's some new owners have a tendency to over-tighten the lugs and tear out the anchors or warp the lid which can usually be straitened and parts replaced or someone tried an use it as a sand vac and damaged the impeller, also replacable. But mostly they need money and you get a great deal, what I hope for you congrats.:grinyes:
