Swordfish?

good luck with your tank(s) karla, hope people here havent turned you off too much. I hope you keep us posted as to your fish and any future questions you may have! This used to be a top notch help/discussion forum, but has seem better days. Maybe if we all take a breath, and go back to the purpose of this forum, helping those who keep fish and ultimatly helping fish live better lives, it can return to what it was?

Karla don't let people discourage you, there are actually wonderful people here that are more than willing to help you and share thier knowledge w/ you. All of us at one point were newbies and some of are still newbies such as myself. And I don't believe that there is such thing as a stupid question, it is the unasked questions.

I hope that enjoy this hobby, it is quite a learning expierence, and I know first hand that my kids have loved it. They enjoy watching them and participating in all aspects of it.

Good luck with your larger tank and we look forward to hearing from you again.

Karla, if you read this you must understand this place is subject to post by
"trolls" that post huge stock lists for their small aquariums, just to get the people on here all riled up.

To be honest when I read your daughters post I thought it was a joke or a post by a troll. The stock list and the unfortunate typo on your daughter's behalf, "swordfish" instead of "swordtail" is what led to the shocked replies.

Please dont listen to the "experts" at the pet store. They are (in almost all cases) hardley experts and dont have the wealth of experience and knowledge you could find on a site like this --- or the internet as a whole.

Me and anyone on this site would guarantee if you read up on some of your fish and ask some questions you will have happier fish and a better overall tank.

Now as for your stock list, it may work for now but I would guess your puffer will be first to go, then the angel will kill the betta. The crawfish will kill both your cats and your pleco, and no matter what type of shark you have it would love to eat those tetras.

I am now looking at a larger tank in the future.
Sounds like your a serious hobbiest and moving in the right direction to keep your fish healthy. Please keep asking questions, most people enjoy helping out.

although they seem to be quite happy together.
While your fish may get along well now, as they grow you may have a different situation, especially with that crawfish! They grow fast and can take out fish twice their size. After a little research I'd march back to those 'experts' that sold you the fish and let them know you can't be taken advantage of! Good luck with this addictive hobby!

Well there you see it. i too reread the posts and there were only two serious and acceptable respondant posts. the rest were belittling.

You dont think putting " YOU WANNA GET A SWORDFISH " in capitals and sarcasm like 2000g tanks and " is this an honest question ? " when anyone with any nouse would realise that they meant a swordtail. Has anyone, Zoo's included ever KEPT a swordfish.

See thats the thing with the American culture. You all just dont realise when your taking a stab at someone. You dont push someone down and make them feel stupid and beneath you. It breeds animosity.

This isnt your own personel little world in this forum. the only reason it exists is because people log on and visit it. They do this because most often they enjoy it. If you turn people away with childish behaviour your going to have an empty forum and preach to no-one. Think about it. Sorry if I'm a little over the top but it makes me irate to see people downtrodden and a potential hobbyist lost. There is no such thing as a stupid question. And i dont think anyone would bother posting a thread that wasnt serious to them.
i'm so sorry.... I didn't realize... well, thats what happens when you take things a little too literally... i'm really a humanitarian... and I didn't get enough sleep the other night, so I was really irritable... please, everyone, FORGIVE ME!!! :( :( :( :(

Karla, I hope you stick around. Some folks think they're always being witty when mostly they're just being crass. Once this was a great site. It may be again. Keep asking questions. There are some sharp, helpful folks here. Of course, if the site continues to degrade the two alternatives offered you are awesome.

That's okay, fishcatch22. It's best just to report the posts and ignore them. The mods will take care of it.

I've been called worse ;)
