?Tanked?, a New TV Show for Aquarium Enthusiasts

I am definitely biased towards more of the au natural look though.

Me too. I have a hard time having a tank without plants in it. I think I'd have a hard time having a marine tank without a reef.

I like to look at my tanks and think, hmm, this is like a window of nature... Or as close as I can make it.

And that guy was totally petting a puffer until it puffed up and then he started squeezing it.

crazy stuff. just finished watching the first two episodes and i got to say WTF!!! craziness. awesome tanks but poor husbandry. really!!! leave the stocking and compatibility to the people that understand these things!

Well, you could make an argument that it is both science and fiction. Just because it's scripted, and we all know that it's "fake" doesn't mean that those performers don't know their physiology, geometry, and physics to some degree. They have to at least be able to put that knowledge to use, even if they couldn't teach it, to keep from crippling each other or themselves. No matter what else you can say about them, those folks are *athletes*.

And civil war writers know the physics behind writing on paper with a pencil. They must actually be writing SciFi too!

You could certainly make said argument, but you'd never win with it, lol

gotta disagree here.

those ARE educational......

Case and point. The prosecution rests.

Thanks for helping clear that up LBF!

I'm noticing that we are all complaining about the show, talking about how bad it is, it's staged, they don't take good care of the fish, etc., yet are still watching the show each week, then coming here to complain about it. Watching the show, boosting the ratings, and taking in the advertising during commercial breaks isn't exactly the way to send a message to the network that the show is bad. In fact, it does precisely the opposite.

I assume nothing. I don't watch TV on TV either. But we are the minority.

I dont really like it that much. those custom coral inserts are annoying and will just get covered with coraline. The people have no real interest in the actual fish tank and dont want to be a part of it or work on it half the time or put any effort with theyre own hands. They just think it looks cool, hell i knoticed one episode that one lady had to climb a ladder to feed her fish and that was to much work o_0.

plus the guys on that show are obnoxious..

end rant haha

If you've got the money to be lazy enough not to need to use a ladder for a tall tank like that, more power to you. If you've got the money to pay other people to do all your maintenance, so you can just sit and enjoy the fish, more power to you. As long as there is someone taking care of the tank so the fish stay healthy, I see no problem with being too lazy to do it yourself.

That being said, I myself personally like the hands on aspect of the hobby, and could never just hire someone else to do it all for me. I'd quit the hobby before I'd allow any of my tanks to become nothing more than decorations to me. I enjoy DIY projects, trimming my real plants, and I even enjoy routine maintenance, for some reason I'll never understand. But even so, I still use a water changer as opposed to buckets for water changes, because I'm lazy, and I only do those once a week. That's not so much different than having an EZ feeder tube for a tall tank, that you would otherwise have to get up on a ladder just to get into at least once daily to feed your fish.

But you're absolutely right. Both the fake coral inserts and the cast themselves are annoying.

I would say they are intersting and have given me a few ideas for fictional stories elsewhere, and maybe they are edgucational.
