teenagers of AC

Anyone else here dislike it when your parents tell you that you spend to much time on the computer talking about fish and stuff?

Nah, my parents dont like me spending so much time on my computer, but most of the time it is spent learning how to build things, or deeper into how computers really work and learning more about fish stuff. Much better than the 6+ hrs my bro spends on MY xbox all day.

Let this be a lesson, dont ever go in on a gaming console with your little sibling. Your parents will always take the side of the younger one. At this point I just shut down the network or turn off the power to his room. Then he comes to me to get it fixed. I tell him I am going to fix it, then I just turn the power on or turn the network back on and then I play. Mean, and possibly bad for the system but, I want some fun out of my $200 investment. The best part is that I am going to take it to college with me so I can use it as a windows media center device to play music and movies on a tv instead of my computer monitors.

Oh, just a bit of an update on the scio situation.

So we had to cut 5 people from jv last week. We wanted her to cut the annoying student and keep our friend tony who is good at test events and can help with the whole 2 events the annoying student is in. Plus he is fun to be around and we get stuff done and have a good time doing it rather than arguing or spending an hour explaining a simple thing to someone with a brain smaller than the one my betta has. She would have done it, but I guess we told her to late. And she didnt want to go back and change it. The only thing that might possibly keep me in on the team next year is if there is a cool robotics event. Otherwise, I am out, and I will work on the computer club robot which is just sitting there and the teacher has several hundred dollars invested in it. (well, he bought the electric wheelchair for like $10 in florida but it cost $200 to ship it to illinois). Then he had to buy a motor controller and new batteries and wheels. I want to work with that, because I will be able to ride it or scare the #### out of someone with it. In the end it should have 2 laptops on it, its own wireless network, a remote shut down, a network camera, and some other stuff. Using an angle grinder sending sparks 20ft behind me is more fun than using a dremel sending sparks a few inches up.

I have to choose my classes tonight and I am thinking about this one class that they offer at MCC. It is a robotics class and I would get college credit for taking it. But I have to drive there by 7 am and then it is a longer class than ones at my school. So I would get out of that about half way through second period (so about 8:35) and then I would have to drive to school by 9:15. I dont know how far away it is though. But other people do it just fine. My only concern is if there is bad weather or if the robotics class isnt canceled and normal school is. I would be fine with that, but the wimpy little sonata that I would drive doesnt do very good in bad weather unless you go like 5mph. I dont want to take biology even though I love science. But I hate chemistry and taking AP chem wouldnt be good since I have like a C in chem honors right now. I have to take pre calc (maybe honors?) for sure. My only options are AP chem, AP physics, and biology (regular, honors, or AP) Then I need spanish 3 which I dont even know if they teach it. From what I have seen all of the teachers that I have ever had (4) teach spanish 1, spanish 2, and spanish 4. Plus i need to take world history, gym, and some sort of english class. Too many options, and only a few hours left to choose. I need to wait until my mom gets home because she is controlling over what classes I take. Tough decisions.

If you want to go for the robotics class, go for it! If you have the valid excuse of "My car stalled in the weather" they can't drop you can they?

Ok, so I took the normal classes and pre calc honors. Then for my electives I put spanish 3 because my mom is making me and CAD (computer aided design). Then I needed 2 alternatives in case I didnt get cad so I put electronics for one of them (a whole year long class) and small gas engines and a study hall that are each a semester long. Because I need to take spanish, the robotics class wouldnt fit in my schedule. Then she got mad at me for not being able to take robotics. There is nothing I can do about it unless I drop spanish 3, then she would get even more mad. There is just no good way to do it.

IMHAUO, it's your education, you should take the classes you want to take. Spanish is good and all, but but robotics is the future, and you'll probably be better off with it. You should try to explain to your mom what YOU want, not what she wants. But it's your mom, your life, and your situation, not my place to give commands. Just... stick up for yourself.

Yeah, I will try to fit robotics in senior year I guess. Taking spanish 3 makes sense. Even though you only need 2 years to graduate from my school, my cousins colledge required 3. So taking 3 years makes sense. And I already loose enough of what I learned over the summer, better not make it over a year between spn 2 and spn 3.

The robotics class, from what I could find on it, was using those lego mindstorms. WAY below my skill level considering I work on a robot made out of an electric wheelchair and the teacher has enough confidence in my skill to make sure it has the safety it needs and that it is all wired correctly and the code works right. Otherwise someone could get seriously injured. He would be teaching me how to weld, but we cant do that in the physics class room.

I emailed the teacher of the class to see what it was like or if I could get more info on it and if he thought it would be too easy for my skill level. Hopefully get a reply sometime soon.

Oh, well in that case your mom knows what she's talkin bout. I was thinking this robotics class was like, the thing for you. If it's lower then your skill level, then go with the Spanish. Good luck with your year! Oh, and CAD is awesome, I loved it when I took it. Now I'm in Arch CAD, and still lovin it!

Yeah, I am looking forward to CAD. I want to be able to come up with ideas in it and actually translate them to a 3D image. I also want to learn how to use google sketch up but cad first. Lol, I have a toshiba laptop with win 95 on it and it has auto cad 97 on it as well. Along with the wiring plans for a ymca in MN and some stuff in a big tanker ship. Pretty cool stuff, but I dont have a way to back up the files and I am afraid I am going to screw them up someday. I am sure my grandpa probably has them saved to a floppy disc somewhere in his house or at the dump.

Robotics would be cool, but it just wouldnt fit and probably is way below my skill level.

being 19, i personally can't wait to not be a teenager anymore.

Just wait till you're paying your own bills lol, then you'll be wishing you were a teen with no worries beyond what's in style :D

I just wanna be able to skip the next 15 years or so into the future so I won't have to worry about figuring out what to do with my life... I'll have already figured it out :)
