The 75gal reef tank cycle has started!!!!!!!

Cool I know the chart I'm just posting to talk about what is going on. I think your right about the timing. It stopped smelling by the time we got up today. We went looking at LFS's today. We went to 3 of them. There was one that was nice. There prices are a bit high but they had allot of live stock and equipment so not bad to know. I have to ask what is everyone paying for a Hippo Tang (baby) 1" to 1.5"? They were asking $55.00 and that just seem high to me.

IMO a hippo tang is not a good beginner fish.. heck, I don't think they are good "aquarium" fish myself.. so no matter what size tank I end up with down the road, a hippo is one fish that I will never keep, not even in a 300G tank. I know they would do ok in a 300, but one stressfull day and your whole tank is sick with something because of the hippo. Way to "stressful" of a fish and gets diseases super easy.

I went to a LFS yesterday and must have saw 6 really nice little baby tangs, all different types.. all around 1". Cutest little fish when they are small, but they grow up so fast.

I see. Well I guess I'll have to read more about them. I don't want to stress out anything in the tank and cause problems so maybe I wont go with the tang. How much were they asking for the tangs?

The baby tangs ranged from $49.99 to $79.99 depending on what type it was. Baby hippos were probaby either $49.99 or $54.99 so they were the same price here in Santa Barbara. They had a few sailfins, purples, yellows, hippos, scopas, and a powder blue. Definately more baby tangs than usual.

I ended up picking up another filament flasher wrasse because I killed my other one by accident.. but I seemed to have caused some fighting because my mandarin and filament both have bites out of their tails today. I hate when that happens.. new guy always has to get jumped in.. even if you had the same type of fish already and was doing fine and peaceful before.

Yeah I can see how that would suck a bit. Well that is a good price then I just thought that was allot for a baby fish. They Had a pair of clowns for $120.00 also. What do you think of that price? They were about 1.5".

Depends on what type of clown, but usually mated pairs go for more than 2 separate clowns. I have been eyeing the Picasso Clown for a while now. In about a month I am going to redo my aquarium.. do a big fish swap and re-aquascape. These are the fish I am going to take back to my LFS.

Yellow coris wrasse - starting to get too big

Maroon clown and anemone - I have been wanting to get rid of for a while now. It was fun in the early days having them but my interests are now going towards SPS corals and I can't have the anemone and SPS in the same small tank

Engineer goby - had I realized it grew to be 12" I would have never got him. Cool guy, but way to big for my tank.

Clown goby - Always sits on my green slimer SPS and I now know clowns are not good fish to have if you want an SPS coral tank.

Lawnmower Blenny - Nippy and getting too big.

Pygmy angel - too nippy.

I will replace all those fish with just a Potters angel and picasso clown and hopefully I will be happy and not overstocked.. right guys.. ;)

Have you thought about setting up another tank and keeping the one you have. It sounds like you have a good grasp of the hobby. Why not have 2? I'm already thinking about another tank that I can hook up to the 75.

Naw, my goal is to have one really nice tank. I had 2 tanks in the past and it just gets to be way to much time and work sustaining them both. Not to mention expensive. I have been thinking of just upgrading my tank to a custom 57G though, because that is as big as my stand will take. L30"xW22"xD20". With a 4" sandbed that will be 16" deep and I can still use the same equipment I already have.

That's cool. Isn't the bigger tanks easier to keep up with then the smaller ones?
