 There were good times, there were bad times and then there were good times again :) I'm having a bad time now lol. Waiting for aother 192 watt pc lamp to double my wattage as I lost a nice head of froggy spawn cause I waited too long to upgrade and it withered away. doh!

Blinky, i have a question for you about your Gobbies. Any idea how big those sixspot gobies get???

I have one in my tank, but can't find any specs on the guy. Thanks!!

By the way, tank is looking better and better, every time i see it. Well done Blinky!!

SF - that's lousy, sorry you lost the froggy. Hopefully the new fixture will make everything happy and that won't ever happen again.

Mooch - Here's a link to the article about sleepers on wetwebmedia, lots of info there. These guys get around five inches long, give or take but for the work they do I'll take the bioload :)

I had a LOUSY time this morning, woke up to find that my giant (1.5" or so) electric blue hermit had my new Potter's angel by the tail and wouldn't let go. Any healthy fish would swim away even if it meant losing part of a fin, so I knew something was wrong. The fish hadn't been eating for the last week and today he was disoriented and breathing rapidly but otherwise looked fine and was in full colour (that's the part that really confused me). If I didn't know better I would say cyanide, but it's not used in Hawaii so I'm at a loss. Poor fish, he was gorgeous. That's the second time I've tried a Potter's, I'm done at least for now. I'm going to leave things as they are, the tank is great with the present population. Now I'm just hoping that whatever affected the Potter's hasn't spread - so far everyone looks good and they're eating like pigs so I'm not that worried.

Here's another update...
I'm leaving the fish population as is, but I would like to see a few more corals in the tank. I added a leather (it was labeled as a 'colt coral', I don't know exactly what species it is) yesterday. You can see the new sixline wrasse as well; he's a zippy little guy, I'm finding it tough to get a decent picture of him :)

Wow ! May I suggest brown star polyps? These things can withstand any fish and spread like crazy so if you lose a few as munchies, its no great loss. I can't keep any macro algae. 'Tango' yellow tang renamed, eats all the greens!! But he' doing super and I'm yet to feel guilty about keeping him in 65g. He is very much the showpiece and seems to know it.
He hangs out with 'cash' (argus wrasse). Tango and Cash was a movie. And this hobby is swallowing my "cash' har har har! :) ao it works.
Sorry about the potters. Beautiful fish but I hear alot of people have problems. They've got one at my lfs but won't sell until he starts to eat and so far not so good there too.

Tango and cash, that's cute! Have you tried Caulerpa racemosa? Our tangs at work didn't seem too interested when I brought in an armful for them to try, it's possible it's one of the less tasty Caulerpas. The stuff grows like crazy, you might be able to keep it even if he's giving it daily trimmings.
As for the Potter's, I truly give up for now. Midas seems blissful being the only angel in the tank, so we're going to leave things alone and just work on getting a few more corals. Star polyps are a good idea, if we have a frag at work I'll grab them. I'd like some zoas, shrooms and maybe yellow polyps for colour as well, maybe I'll come home from work tomorrow with some pretty stuff :)

I'll look for more caulerpa, I had some but I removed it when it became a nuisance, getting stuck in ph's etc... Might go again if I can hook it to one spot as you've done. Bkinky, are you still using tap water?

Yep :) Our tap water test zero for NO3 and PO4, I'm lucky. The 30g and 65g have no nusiance algae other than the green dust that builds up on the glass and the 5.5g is going through some growing pains with a little cyano and hair algae but both of the others had the same issues and came through it nicely.

To update the diary, I brought home a few 'green turbos' today from work, I figure there can't really be too much diversity when it comes to cleanup critters.

The only thing I worry for is copper, led and other contaminants. I top off, occasionally with tap, but found when I went back to lugging home the r/o water I got nicer polyp extension. Maybe just the water change itself..dunno.
I got a blue linckia star on Saturday. He's hiding undr a ledge but we'll see. Fingers crossed.
