They spawned

I know Noodles' fish is not as colorful as most farmed DGs & I'm skeptical about odd looking "wild" fish. But sometimes there are outcrosses that resemble wild fish, or something else. Those are often culled, they don't sell as well as the more colorful 1s. Hers also seems a bit longer in the body & less colorful than in my old (1960s) fish books...I don't know...but I'm happy NCs fish have bred for "her". Like my Meyer lemons, there may be a bit of tangerine in their past but there still pretty much lemons...(Cali take on breeding? LOL)

I do know I hate the so called "Czech Republic" hybrid "new" loaches (yeah tl, you've got to agree), hybrid synodontis, cichlids, etc. It's 1 thing for a hobbyist like Noodles to breed her fish, but she's also taking the high road to full disclosure when it comes time to rehome any survivors. Not like the commercial hybridizers with only a profit motive. The only way to know if they breed "true" is to breed her fry to each other...if they can...& see what the offspring look like. But these days we have DNA tests for some animals...it may not be all that long into the future before we can know more, it's mostly a matter of $$…& time.

Good luck with your fry NoodleCats, I'm in no way trying to take away from your breeding success!! Maybe he has the good daddy genes... Keep the pics coming!

Personally i think hes really beautiful and id love to see the body shape carried on, tbh.

But im also the one who is completely smitten with my feeder guppy lol!

Im personally okay with hybrids within purely domestic fish. It can also strengthen genetics. Evolution has had some hybrids occur naturally. Humans are a case of this, all of us have had some sort of hybridization in our ancestors way back since many humans still contain around 2% Neanderthal DNA. Which is really fascinating... but i digress.

What im not okay with is lying about it. I dont want to breed for profit anyways. I hope i get a good handful of healthy strong fry out of this that people will enjoy just to have as pets. I know i want to keep one for myself too (female preferred)

Well, Noodle, I'm on board with your gourami, he's lovely. But not so much with your guppy, lol. Put me down as a livebearer, not hater exactly, but let's just call it not a fan...endler/guppy crosses, muppies, meh. & lets not go into balloon fish etc...just because something can be done doesn't make it right...

But if I ever see Noodle gouramis...We'll all know who started it, ha! You do know I'm joking, right? I wish you & your fry good luck.

The problem is that hybridization more often as not weaken genetics, and there is no way of knowing what you going to get. I think about all hybrids have a shorter lifespan as either parent species. Some of these fish will end up back in nature and will mix with original or closely related species. Serious hobbyists aren't interested in them, they will end up being fed to predatory fish, or continue being bred by folks who don't know or don't care. Fish farms aren't going to be honest about this, most LFS can't even be honest about how many pacus or goldfish will fit in a 10 gallon.
I'm all for someone catching wild dwarf gouramis and breed them responsibly so they are as hardy and beautiful as in the wild.
But what I don't get is to cross say a dwarf gourami with a thick lipped, or a goldfish and a koi and then say 'I got a fish that looks both like a koi and a goldfish', or it's a fish it has the body of a thick lipped gourami, but with the colors of a dwarf. What's the use of that? If you don't like a particular fish or don't think it's beautiful, don't get it, get another one that you like.
It's like you're trying to get your kid in to guinea pigs, and he says 'i'd want one if they were pink, and have 6 legs and maybe some fangs'? And then there would be some bio engineer saying yeah we can do that we know all those genes. I'd just say you know what, maybe guinea pigs are not for you. Get like an albino beetle or spider or something. All color variations of fish are weaker already, but wouldn't it be nice if they lived twice as long? Even wild colored fish have been affected by poor fish farm management, most of the popular species are just a shadow of what they were both in color and vigor back in the 70's and 80's.
(this is a general statement I know Noodles you would be warning people they are likely hybrids)

Hey long time no see ;)

Created an account just to say congrats and i'm following along
SOOOOO good to see you :D its been some time!!

As you can see, my DG pair got put together because the female was being bullied by my molly so i had to chance putting them together earlier.

Needless to say, didn't have to worry about them not getting along lol
