Tiny Freshwater Fish-Discussion Thread

Finally, an update! Micropoelicia species! Good luck finding any of these anywhere. If you have interest in them and want to find out more about their care requirements, contact your local livebearer's association.

Micropoecilia branneri

Branner's livebearer

according to fishbase, these guys grow to 3cm and live in the amazon river basin.

Micropoecilia melanzona is listed on fishbase, but there is no info or pics of it on the web

I, um, think this is Micropoecilia minima. Fishbase lists it as growing to 1.6 cm. Tiny! Lives in the guam river basin in Brazil.

Micropoecilia bifurca exists, but I am finding conflicting pictures.

I don't know and can't really find anything out about these fish. I may get on some livebearer associations and search. Breeding these guys is not easy, btw.

Carlhubbsia stuarti
Girardinus metallicus
Micropoecilia parae, branneri

Phallicthys amates, actually, anything from the Phallicthys family.
Poeciliopsis, again, anything from this family. Currently I have gracilis and prolifica.

your list never ceases to amaze me.... now if I can only use it to help narrow down the final stock list for my biotope tank...

Xiphophorus pygmaeus, the pygmy swordtail. Growing to only 1.5 inches, according to this JSTOR article(http://www.jstor.org/stable/1439920?seq=2) they live in deep, fast water in nature. This may make them unsuitable for a ten gallon, though the place I encountered this list was a moderator on one of the big livebearer associations suggesting livebearers for the smaller tank. Fishbase lists them as liking a PH from 7.2-7.8. It may be rare in the wild, so if you choose to keep these guys, try to breed them.

In England, this fish is known as the Golden Teddy. A peaceful fish with the males reaching about an inch in length and the females 1.5 which has a wide temperature range.

Livebearers are not my strong suit, so if you ever consider getting these guys please contact your local livebearer association.

Thanks for the compliments, guys :)

too bad this isn't stickied. It would be nice if it was easy to find in the future.
