Well, the reason for the spike in the population in America isn't because of the lack of natural predators. It is partly due to harsher penalties involved with poaching, and higher priced hunting permits. Plus with higher yield corn and bean hybrids, there is more food for them. Besides the only thing that could hunt deer are wolves, bears and mountain lions. And they don't exactly eat a whole lot.
And you seriously need to rethink what you know about America. If that isn't a one sided opinion I don't know what is. Don't condemn 300 million people with a label that a small amount deserves.
While I do agree that the number of natural predators is low, that was a problem created by previous generations. Wolves and other predators worldwide (not just in America) were taken out where they conflict with human interests. So now the deers main natural predator are people who live here and now.
There is plenty room for healthy deer populations but letting it spiral out of control is dangerous IMO.

In our neck of the woods the deer to person population is unbelievably high. And there are also no 'natural predators' to keep the numbers in check. Personally I believe that the fish and game department is doing a great job trying to keep the population down by extending seasons and even adding extra mini-seasons. In case you're curious of the numbers, look up Hardin, Pope, Johnson, Saline, and Gallatin counties in Illinois.
