Was a good day for deer hunting.

Well, I see you all have strong points defending the hunting activity. I was expressing myself too. Didn't mean to start an agression follow up, nor be asked to go to another forum.

Sorry for hijacking this thread.

Pat- I didnt ask you to go to another forum. I said discuss it in another forum- like PETA.

Well, not so much we don't like it. But the point has been made about who does and doesn't like deer hunting. And further disagreement about the matter is just annoying. This topic wasn't meant to be a discussion about the ethics involved in hunting.

I'm not a hunter, but I love fishing. However, I have no problem with hunting unless it's just to get a trophy for your den. If you eat/donate what you kill, then have at it. I would suggest though, that if the tree hugger want to save the deer, they volunteer to be hunted in their place. I would condone shooting tree huggers and not eating them, though. All those vegans are gassy and smelly, I certainly wouldn't want anyone to eat that kind of rancid junk...

SAVE A DEER, SHOOT A VEGAN!

people often disagree here and have a good conversations with valid points around the table..... not sure where this perception came from.

Me.... I don't hunt but my dad does.... do I like the thought of him going out and bagging a 10 pointer, nope.... but I understand that it's needed to keep them at respectable numbers as well as off the highways posing dangers to drivers and the like. Someone mentioned earlier that if there weren't a hunt, and because without a predator, the deer would overpopulize, cause all kind of calamity, run out of food, starve, die... disease would become a part of their life and possible ours.... you think there's a lot of lyme's disease now? Think of it. Sure they're pretty and sure Disney mde them seem almost human but they have to be kept in a controled number to keep them pretty..... and with them tasting so good, it's just a bonus ;)

(I don't condone shooting for trophy only)

I agree with you DD on the hunting for tropies part. Allot of guys go and hunt exotic animals. They hunt elepants, jaguar, rino ect. and allot of these animals are endangered. But, on the flipside the reason they are allowed to hunt these animals is because they begin to overpopulate the areas that they live in(even though they are endangered). So the authorities charge (a very high price) hunters to go shoot a few. This generates money to help conserve them. This is a good idea, but I just feel that they should relocate instead of hunting.

Actually no...As stated before this is not a thread about hunting ethics...Agree/disagree it is of no consequence to me.
OK, I'll go start a thread about keeping five discus with an African cichlid tank and see how many people question the ethics. I stand by my previous statement that some of you people just don't like being disagreed with. This thread was practically an open invitation for comment.

I've gotten a deer every year for the past 10 years or so and the only trophy I have is from a deer I found dead that some one else shot and was to lazy/stupid/whatever to follow and make sure it was dead.
