Weird phobias?

Bridges in the rain/dark/snow. I'm unreasonably afraid of sliding off into dark, icy water ... not crashing through the railing, but like, sliding under it. This is true whether I'm walking or driving. Even if there is absolutely no way for me, much less a vehicle, to fit through or under the railing. Completely unreasonable images fly into my head, my heart hammers, I want to scream and run away. It would be funny if it weren't so awful.

Also, I have vertigo. Balconies, windows in high offices, scenes in movies with people dangling off mountains or window ledges, etc. create this intense (and weird) physical reaction: My knees ache. My legs just sort of buzz with this phantom pain. Even talking about heights and vertigo can cause it. I can feel it right now, in fact. Dang.

I've often wondered if weird phobias are rooted in previous life/death experiences. If so, I sure seem to have fallen to my death/drowned a lot. *shudders*
I survived a motorcycle accident specifically because I did slide under (mostly anyway!) a guard rail. Had I hit the rail more solidly (my arm and the top of my helmet hit) or hit one of the supports things could have gone from bad to @&%! instantly. Weird how one person's fear is another's salvation!

I'm glad you weren't killed/maimed!

Of course, my phobia includes the plunging into freezing dark water and drowning so that's a bit different. ;)

What's that symbol on your avatar mean?

Crowds mainly. I got Aspergers,OCD,Anxiety/panic,PTSD all that obsessive stuff. Im very good 1on1 and in small groups but sometimes large groups of new people confuse me. Im lookin into Orthomolecular meds. for my anxiety, interesting stuff search Harold Foster (hdfoster.com) or anything by Dr. Abram Hoffer if your a panicy evil scientist like me. I dont like horses either, but thats another reasonable fear cuz there huge and can hurt you. I dont like there creepy eyes and horses are always watchin. Horses must secretly hate humans for fencin them in an making them our slaves

I met a girl from New York while studying abroad in England who had a diagnosed phobia of fish. She couldn't even be in a restaurant if there was fish and chips on the menu! (A rather BIG problem in England.) There was a fancy Japanese restaurant between our flat and our University that had a big indoor koi pond and she couldn't walk on that side of the street. She would not have done well in my house lol!

Got another one: I have the stupidest phobia of, here's the weird part, not big heights, but small ones. Ladders, stairs, looking out a window on the 2nd floor, looking out over a short bridge, stuff like that. It's beyond creepy for me, I literally start to get wobbly just by getting near them... I remember this one time I was on a 15ft tall bridge and froze up, literally, I just froze there with the feeling I was gonna fall off. High dives don't scare me as much, but they still do, low dives I can only barely use... and even then with fear the first few times... lol, I have issues.

I'm afraid of heights. Like being on a chair, or on a building, or on the stairs to a water slide. I have to sit down because i get super dizzy and start hyperventilating. I feel like its moving and swaying and im gunna fall off and splat on the ground. Also afraid of open bodies of water because i dont like things touching me that i cant see. I'm afraid of crowds of people, i get really moody and touchy until i can get out of the crowd. I'm terrified of dogs. but its not irrational, because i got mauled by a wolf when i was 10.

other than that not much

I'm afraid of heights but that isn't too irrational.

My weirdest fear is crickets. I'm terrified of big jumpy crickets. Grasshoppers are fine, crickets are scary.

Cave crickets are the worst.

It's like someone crossed a spider and a cricket -shivers- they use to live in my basement growing up.

Birds also weird me out but not I'm not really afraid of them unless they are swooping down on me.

I also have a fear of not being able to see. If I'm somewhere really dark I tend to freeze up in fear. I hate not being able to see.

I can't swim in lakes, ponds, rivers, the ocean unless I have something covering my feet. I'm not bothered by there being fish or anything else alive in the water though.

We're sort of opposites: I'm freaked out by grasshoppers, but crickets don't bother me much. Except for cave or camel crickets. Awful, mutant, alien-looking things!

But I think most bug phobias are just good plain common sense in action. :)
