my 20G took a day or two, probably because i used Bio-Spira to cycle, since im not a patient person
a cycle will usually take 4-6 weeks, so you wouldn't be able to add fish anytime soon. just keep dosing ammonia until you see a spike along with NitrItes beginning to appear and then 0 levels with NitrAtes finally showing up, thats when the cycle is just about done.
The dwarf gourami probably won't eat the neons. Dwarf gouamis are pretty small fish. For the bottom feeder I like my 2 clown plecos. They get about 4 inches. Or you could go with a bristlenose. They stay small to.
Are dwarf gouramis compatible with a bottom feeder, platies, and guppies?
I have my 20 gallon tank, and once it's cycled I'm going to get some. If i have a couple of dwarf gouramis, how many guppies and platies could I safely keep in there? Also, what kind of bottom feeder would be good that doesn't get too big?
you cannot have more than one male dwarf gourami in a tank that small, and its almost impossible to find females. if you really want to have platies and guppies, be prepared for lots of fry. you should have either all femlales or a 1 male to 3 feamle ratio, so you could have 1 male guppy and four females, along with 2 platy males and 2 females.
5 guppies(1-2 males and the rest female)
4 platys (1 male 3 female)
4 cory cats of any kind
1 dwarf gourami (unless you get a spawned pair, but its easier to get one)
these are pics of different cory cat species.
it works because the fish are only going to be ther for about a week, and thats not enough time for them to realize they are bigger and stronger than eachother
