I would just put the new filter on the 10 gallon (so you will be running 2 filters on the 10g) and let it be getting seeded until you get back then move them both over to the new 20 gallon when you swap things over. Although depending on the filter you have for the 20g there maybe too much water...

Yup...You do it to get nitrate levels down as alot of times they will be 100+ and you need to get them down around the 20ppm or so range to be safe for the fish you stock.

Are you letting the tapwater sample sit overnight before you test it? This way you get a true reading of what the water pH is. Just run some water in a shallow dish and let it sit for 24hrs before testing. Also what does the pH in your tank test at? You might can contact your local water...

:iagree: Just dose the tank with water conditioner for the total volume the tank holds and not the amount you are adding right before you start filling with the Python and you will be fine.

I am running an Aqua-Tech 30-60 on my 55g tank .... Like mentioned before it is made by Marineland and uses their filter media... The filter media sold for them at Walmart are the same as Marineland's but with different labeling. As for the bio fiber part of it I have only slightly rinsed...

That is normally what I have done for the last couple weeks...just kinda brushed it off before I do my water change and vacuum as much of the stuff out as I rub it off

If the tank(s) have only been running 1 week then you probably wont see any nitrates... Maybe I am reading this all wrong but it is kinda confussing to me.... I am also wondering how you are cycling the tank(s).

Keeping it in the 3-4ppm range is fine for most stocking.... I had rather it be alittle less than 4 than over just because of the jump from 4 to 8ppm on the color cards making it hard to be sure what it is just to be on the safe side.
