    What do my plants need?

    Swiped two 14w spiral flourescents from around the house and "Wow!" is the only way I can describe the difference. I'll go out and price check the 15w-daylight version this week; I'd like to buy the compact flourescents, but $20 for lighting is a bit much for me right now. Will the 500ml...

    What do my plants need?

    I'm running a 30w incandescent over my lightly planted 10gal, but I'm not sure if it's enough since none of the plants will grow and I see browning after about a week inside the tank. My plan is to purchase 4x25w bulbs and use a 15w plus a 25w in each tank. Now, I'm not sure if my plants are...

    Can I add more to this tank ?

    Out of all the tetras which school the best? My ideas for the SA community sort of revolved around the fact my neons would school so it would be a bit of a let down if I got a lot of independant fish.

    Good way to slow down algea growth?

    Just add some fast growing plants to out compete the alge for nutrients. Hornwort or duckweed would work, but duckweed a pain to remove from a tank once established.

    Fishless Cycling Is The Way To Go

    For those of you just starting the hobby like me, save yourself a lot of heart ache, effort, and time and run a fishless cycle. I've had two tanks running fishy cycles for the last three weeks and I'm about ready to scream. I'm doing three or four water changes to keep the water pristine and...

    UGF Carbon -> Spong conversion?

    It's an added level of mechanical/bio filtration and it keeps my fish from swimming into the output tubes. Plus it saves me money.

    Dwarf puffer not eating!

    Try soaking the bloodworms in garlic. Garlic tend to make picky fish eat and if he's not eating because of internal parasites garlic will help cure them. Also try and give them more food variety.

    UGF Carbon -> Spong conversion?

    This actually worked out pretty well. I bought a sponge large enough to cram into my UGF outputs after being cut into pieces for less than $2. And aside from having better bio/mechanical filtration the sponge allows water to move through it (thanks to there being no shield) and creates a small...

    Would this Speed Cycle Up?

    The filter off your penguin is full of the bene-bacteria you seek to grow while you cycle. You can reduce the cycle period by a week or two or three by using established media.

    UGF Carbon -> Spong conversion?

    :D That's perfect! I'll see if they carry them at PetCo/Petsmart. ($40 is a bit high for me. Aquaria on a budget = :()

    UGF Carbon -> Spong conversion?

    Yeah, that's what I had planned to do. Going to pick some sponges up when I go and get a new tank hood and enchange my emerald cory. *prays to find a 10g that can hold more than 30w*

    UGF Carbon -> Spong conversion?

    Since people have been talking about how carbon isn't really the great for clearing up anything but medication and chemicals from water, would it be in my interest convert my UGF from carbon filteration to sponge? I havn't been able to find extra carbon cartridges for my filter and since I'm a...

    So sad (Painted fish in Taipei)

    They inject a dye into the fish. It's a carcinogen so all of those fish are doomed to die of cancer

    :D New tank!

    The planted tank I have always wanted to do, so I'll be going full out on that (3.5-4.5 wpg, CO2, KO3 added to the water) and, as plants go, ignorning the SA biotope idea. Here are the fish I want to do: 2 Rams, 3 Spotted Cories, 5 Black morpho tetra, 5 Red Phantom Tetra, 4-5 Apple Snails...

    normal for ADF's?

    Yep, mine do it all the time. Sometimes they'll float around on the top for 10-20 minutes. The bolting to the surface is just them breathing.
