    Help! Sick tank.

I forgot to mention that I've been fighting algae in the tank, the kind that's bright green and covers everything in sheets (blue green algae?). Anyway, I've been doing daily water changes. This shouldn't be causing the problem, but I thought I should mention it. Also, the red patch on him is...

    Help! Sick tank.

I don't know what's going on in my 33gal, but something's wrong. Two days ago I noticed one of my serpaes looking a little ragged and pale. I put him in the hospital tank and noticed what looked like a red bruise or bleeding under the skin on one side. He got worse, so I treated with...

    Pls Help, my platy's dying!!

If it was old age and he was resting peacefully, I could probably accept it better. But he's so distressed fluttering frantically around or lying curled up on the bottom, fins going like crazy, or still and clamped. It's heartbreaking to see.

    Pls Help, my platy's dying!!

I just got home from work and he's still alive, but swimming around crazy like. Very fast, erratic movements when he's not lying on the bottom. Tail and fins go a mile a minute, fluttering like crazy. Something is so wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure out what to do for him. Water...

    Pls Help, my platy's dying!!

I found him on the bottom of my 20gal, lying there. Moved into QT tank asap, salt dose given. He's either fluttering around trying to swim, or lying on the bottom, sometimes with tail curved. He's fighting like crazy to swim, but losing the battle fast. I don't want to randomly medicate. I've...

Moving cories from 10gal to 33gal

All that's in there is a male betta, and I doubt I'd ever add anything else. Maybe I'll just leave them be, then. It's a fun tank to watch as the betta and cories tease each other, especially at feeding time when the betta steals the sinking pellets meant for the cories. Thanks for the info.

Moving cories from 10gal to 33gal

OK, thanks. :) But should they be moved to the bigger tank? Or could they live out their life in the 10gal. I don't want to move them if I don't have to, but if the 10gal is too small, I will. Oh, they are peppered cories, if it makes a difference.

Moving cories from 10gal to 33gal

I just added some fish to my fishless cycled 33gal. I have four cories in my 10gal, with my male betta, that I'm thinking of moving over to the new tank. I believe the four cories will get too big for the 10gal, will they not? (If not, I'll leave them there and get new ones for the 33gal)...

    Q Tank

ArkyLady explained quite nicely at the top how to instantly cycle your QT tank. It's the best way to go, and the easiest. I wouldn't use feeder goldfish to keep my QT tank cycled. So many of them are diseased and unhealthy, plus goldfish would grow, and eventually outgrow the QT tank. Plus...

    New tank help!

Umm, back to OrionGirl's question. Are you cycling the tank with pure ammonia? You can't just run the tank with nothing and have it safe for fish. You need to cycle it, a process that takes several weeks.

new tank and it smells need suggestion

Well, you need at least an ammonia test kit to see what the ammonia reading is. You need to test daily, and probably do water changes daily. Ammonia poisoning can be fatal, and those that survive will have unrepairable gill damage, which will shorten their lives. Water changes are your best bet...

    Stocking levels for 33gal

Well, my choices were narrowed down somewhat today when I got to the LFS. A couple of their tanks had problems overnight and were in quarantine for a couple days. It included the tiger barbs, cherry barbs, and some others. Anyways, I got a nice tankful out of it anyway. I bought 3 pearl danios...

    Stocking levels for 33gal

I'm heading to the LFS tomorrow to stock, and I'm worried about overstocking. It's a 33gal, planted, AC300, fishless cycled, PH 7. This is what the store has that I'm interested in. Any advice with compatiblities and stocking numbers would be appreciated. :) I'm looking for a fun, peaceful...

    Angel ID

9-12" high... I think I'll have to pass! And you hit the nail on the head, SnakeIce. I went and saw the angels today, and they're exactly as you describe them. Very attractive, but...........too big, eventually. They're only dollar size right now. I'll stick to my nice community...

    Angel ID

Sounds great! If they are pearl danios (disguised under the other name), I will be getting some, they need to be in groups like other danios, don't they? I also have one zebra and one leopard danio in my other tank that I want to move over. Will they swim with the pearl's? I'm going to pass...

    Angel ID

My tank is 36x12x 18H. I wasn't sure if they angels would be ok in that size tank, either. I'm sure they're small and the LFS will tell me I should get three ;) . I'll try to get their name and research them. The purple passion danios are apparently a 'little broader than zebras'. She said...

    Angel ID

My tank is ready to stock (33gal), so I phoned my LFS to see what they got in with their new order. They told me about some angels they got that are black on the back half of their body, and silvery on the front half. Does anyone recognize this type, and if so, could you tell me a little about...

    Amazon Sword babies

Amazon Sword question My amazon sword has the typical long piece (don't know the name of it  ) growing upwards that has the little new plants growing on it. On the one strand there are four new baby plants, and the lowest three have white roots flowing down. I know you can cut these...

    Just want to say Thanks!

Just make sure you don't bring down the nitrates too fast. I did that, then wondered (until I came here and asked) why I lost some fish. The sudden drop of nitrates, too much too fast, was too much of a shock for them. I was told here to take even a week or so to bring them down from very...
