Button Quail!

adorable! I know that chefjamesscott has a button quail, so you can ask him for any info. They are just too cute! lol

They eat a LOT though. I put about 500 fruit flies in there, plus their food dish of food (it's a coffee can lid). The food is almost gone, and the fruit flies are getting scarce (it's a mesh screen lid, the flies aren't escaping). It seems like these guys are CONSTANTLY on the move and CONSTANTLY picking for food.

You can probably feed them baby chicken feed that you can get at the feed store. They might eat mashed boiled egg, wheat bread and a variety of vegetables.

In general bird pooh doesn't stink unless it is allowed to build up so that it doesn't dry and then bacteria grows in it.

Yup, we have some crumbles that we bought to feed the ducks at the park, but with it being so cold, I don't take our son down there anymore, so we have a good bit of chick crumbles. Ironically, it's the same brand that the breeder was using. The fruitflies are more for a fun treat than anything, I already have them here for the fish, and I can never use up a culture quickly enough. Hopefully with these gluttons, I can stop freezing off extra fruit flies. :D

This is a bad photo, but was taken and kept for size reference. Wrapper from a regular stick of gum and one of the bigger blue babies:

I had to take it through the screen because there were still a few stray fruitflies that I didn't want escaping...

Cute little buttons!

I recently acquired some buttons. They are older; about 6 weeks. The hens have just started laying. They're very cute, quiet little birds. I have seven right now, but three of them belong to a friend. I've found mine love pine needles and crickets... it's funny to watch them go after the crickets. I've been feeding chick feed and finch seed with a bit of scrambled egg and broccoli.

They're amazing when they've got all their feathers in. I have two silvers, two blacks, one standard, and two "cinnamon."

These guys develop so fast! When I first got them (only three days ago!) they mostly had fuzz, a few of them were starting to get pin feathers. Now, the larger ones are almost all feathers on their wings, and can actually "fly" already. Crazy insane...
Have any pics of your's?
