CFL lights on a 180 - How many ????

I have a number of AH Supply fixtures. They are good stuff, but the bulbs are getting harder to find locally - T5HO is more efficient and comparably priced, and generally easier to find (for me anyway).

Got a link and any recommendations for some T5 set ups?

Since you are probably on a budget, you would probably want to make your own T-5 Fixtures right?

I picked up a 48W T-5 HO 30" fixture off drfosterandsmith a long time ago for around 71 dollars w/ shipping. I believe that other sites may sell that fixture for cheaper.

You could get 3 24" T-5 HO Nova fixtures (48W each) for maybe around 230?

www.championlighting.com There are plenty of options but figure that 8x 39W will be a mid to high light tank. anything more than that and you'll be really bright! Please forgive one mistake I made. When I quoted the approximate price on the cheap setup I mentioned I was figuring on the wholesale price that I pay. Retail is quite a bit higher. If you're handy buy Workhorse ballasts, reflectors and end caps and build something

Ok - I am getting confused again. DO I need to try and piece a T5 system together to get one at a decent price? I got 6 foot of tank so do I need 4 36" bulbs at whatever Wattage or somehtng else? WHY t5 over PC - is it price only? As long as the bulbs can be mail ordered that's all that matters! Yes I am on a budget - if you aren't can I have some money? Having said that - I don't mind paying for a decent set up. I am on my 3rd setup right now. I don't want to be doing this again EVER!!!!!!!!

Here's a good reason why T5HO over PC. A store I worked at replaced the 4x 65W PC fixtures on 1/2 of the tanks in the SW invert section with 2x54W T5HO. The result..... tanks with T5s were brighter, and temp of the system dropped 2 degrees.

was that because the T5 were new and the others were old? I understand about he heat

Four 36" Nova Extreme fixtures will set you back about $350 plus shipping. It's all the light you'll need to grow anything. It's a total of 8x39W. You could save maybe $50 or $60 bucks by building something yourself.

Bulb age was a factor, but the PCs were only 6 months old. T5HOs are rated to last over a year. And they cost 1/2 of what a PC bulb of equal wattage does.

350$ is not bad if bulbs are included for the T5's.
You can also space them across the entire inside of the hood easily.
This would give a really good spread of light over the top.
