Newbie raising some fish

I think you're getting ahead of your parameters.. slow down a bit...I think you need a "time out" to understand what exactly is happening...me too!

What are your nitrate, nitrite & ammonia numbers?...Right now?

I just checked them. Nitrate is 0-0.25 atm. Ammonia 0. Ph 7.4. Nitrite 2nd last highest Pom. So 50 or 80 nitrite.

Did we confirm if these were SAEs, flying foxes or Chinese algae eaters?

Gotcha.

Like said, SAEs aren't picky about the scape. They are FAST and active, so lots of room is key. I started with 3 little baby SAEs in my 55g nearly 6yrs ago. Lost one at about 2yrs. Still have two. They're like hotdog sized torpedos. You will find that they eventually gobble the majority of the food you sprinkle in to the tank over eating algea, but do skim the hardscape all day long.

Yeah, what I tend to do is drop the pellets on top of the rock, so if no one eats all of it, the SAE will, I did it this morning, I went to check the top of the rock and all the pellets are gone. They are awesome tbh, and look very nice. Mine hide in the rocks and live bushy plants. Haha. Is that normal?

And the nitrite was purple coloured again today, the 3rd last highest level on the API master fresh kit.

Any nitrite or ammonia at all, you know what to do, water changes!!!! Are you using a dechlorinator that "detoxifies" ammonia & nitrite like Prime? I forget. If you really, really can't do a WC at least test & dose it for the full tank volume. It will help for 24-48 hours.

Yeah I’ve been doing daily so far. Let’s see what happens tomorrow. Ammonia is always fine. Just nitrites.
