Plants vs. algae

So wait...

With his method I get beautiful, healthy plants and my life is easy...

Sounds good to me, sign me up!

I've yet to buy anything from Tom and he's never offered to sell anything. His advice is free.

:thm: Well said, pap!

I reread the first post and want to point out how flawed of a statement this is.

1) Not all algae are unicellular. Most chlorophyta are, but not all.

2) Algae store energy as starch in their pyrenoids.

Yes I know, but they do not store energy nearly as long as plants do.

Wait? I'm now also a salesman? Where's all my money? Someone owes me a commission..... now who is it?

You mean I was suppose to be getting paid?
Doh!

Regards,
Tom Barr

If you know these things then it's best not to state the opposite as fact in your little method here...

For example...

Most people here that are having some difficulty, probably have many aspects of there aquariums right for growing plants but are missing the “magic ingredient”, that little piece of knowledge that would make all the difference. That piece of knowledge is “plants store energy and algae do not”.

Tom, can you explain to me why, exactly, your method works. Tell me why are the algae dying in your tanks?

How can you know that it is not a nutrient deficient situation when you a PhD don't test for nutrients before you fertilize! I mean it boggles the mind!

I can understand if you’ve developed a system that works and I’m happy for you and anyone that uses it and it works for them. That's great! But why not figure out WHY exactly it is working?

How can you tell people not to test for Nitrates and Phosphates the two nutrients plants and algae use in the highest quantities!

Please explain to me why for the second time (tank 2) after 2-3 days of virtually zero Nitrates and virtually zero Phosphates in my tanks did the algae die off and the plants keep growing? After two weeks I went from a lot of green hair and some small amounts of BBA to almost no algae what-so-ever! And, remember I did it exactly the same, twice.

Please, I really want your thoughts.

I was really trying to state relative to plants they do not. Now your picking. I'm just try to say what I believe must be going on. When Nitrates and Phosphates are limited for a short time 2-3 days the algae starts to die. and after two weeks my tanks were both clean of 90-95% of the algae that was in them.
