I reread the first post and want to point out how flawed of a statement this is.
1) Not all algae are unicellular. Most chlorophyta are, but not all.
2) Algae store energy as starch in their pyrenoids.

Yes I know, but they do not store energy nearly as long as plants do.
Most people here that are having some difficulty, probably have many aspects of there aquariums right for growing plants but are missing the “magic ingredient”, that little piece of knowledge that would make all the difference. That piece of knowledge is “plants store energy and algae do not”.
If you know these things then it's best not to state the opposite as fact in your little method here...
