Some pictures

The sterbai were super shy for about 2 1/2 years but when enough floating stuff grew to block a lot of the light that calmed them down; they really do better if a part of the aquarium is well shaded. Odd thing is they will now spend a lot of time on the 'sunny' side rather than hang out in the shade - i guess the knowing there is a darker area makes them feel safer.

How big are your sterbai now? Could I see pics next to a ruler to help me get a better sense of what I would be in for if I buy some?

I can't answer for jake, but sterbai corys max out at ~2.5 inches, maybe a bit more. Their claim to fame is their higher heat tolerance for tankmates like discus. 84F or more is good for sterbai & adult discus (but maybe not juvenile discus, they like it even a few degrees higher). But juvie discus also need to feed often & with daily, or almost daily big water changes. Not a casual undertaking...

Thanks, and when you say heat tolerance of 84F or more do they require that or is it optional? Cause I can imagine that being useful for getting rid of ick (turning the temp up and keeping it up for a couple of weeks to make the ick parasite drop off the fish and stay off till it dies from lack of a host) but I don't think I would want to run my tank quite that high all the time, maybe more like 80 - 82F, how low can they go and still be happy?

Hard to hold a ruler up to them. The problem with size is sex make a huge difference. Females are much larger than males - i guess the males are around 2 inches and the females 2.5+ inches but the males are slender and don't really occupy a lot of room. The females are like 1.5 times as wide making them appear much larger and huskier.

Sterbai are one of the few species that can do ok in warmer waters - some people will keep them with discus (86) and rams (82) but they will live longer at around 78. I would not keep them much cooler than 76. Fyi seriouslyfish and planetcatfish are two reliable sites with regards to water parameters. Most cory will want 72-78 with a few cooler. In general you can keep a fish in warmer waters it just won't live as long and in cooler temp it is more prone to disease but there are tolerance range and if too warm or too cool they will die sooner than later. Btw a lot of speices are going extinct due to increase global temp. I shoot for 78 for my sterbai but during the summer it gets as warm as 81-82.

Nice & jungly, my favorite style!

My ?L-333 was along time ago, with different lighting, maybe less yellow? Creamy white-ish?. I just don't remember well anymore. I don't think my pleco would have "settled" for a little moss/algae eye shade. Full head in a cave of invisibility, that was my pleco.
Sex makes a big difference in pleco behavior. I think people constantly for get that. For example my female bn are always out and about during the day but the males are much more nocturnal staying in caves during the day.

For L333 i prefer the white version but they can be pricey at times.

My ?L-333 wasn't sold with an L # . It was called a "scribble" but none had fine lines like L-066. At the time I did a lot of research looking at similar plecos that seemed closest, even after he grew a bit. But I didn't want to get more of a vaguely named & possibly "mixed" group of fish...besides the shop was far, lol. I think we've discussed this before, I just couldn't resist a cute pleco that probably didn't grow too big. 1 of my few impulse fish buys. Yes, by behavior a male.

Holy Cow! How long is that tank?!?! WOW! I'd cover those windows just to keep algae at bay.

I've totally lost my mind over your tank. I can't remember what the topic was. I'd want a bunch of clown loaches & some bigger barbs (drape fin? mascara?) in there. Big wood pieces?

So what's your plan again? I know you said after you moved but golly!

What's the substrate? I like the black. Is it sand or what?

I need to catch my breath...
