    Atison's Betta SPA

When I saw the name "Betta Spa", I thought it was going to be a little hot-tub or Jacuzzi or something!

    Betta Problems

Next time, don't take everything out of the tank to clean. Your fish needs the bacteria growing in the gravel, on the ornaments, and on the side of the tank--these bacteria convert the harmful ammonia produced by the fish into nitrite and then nitrate. Don't feel bad, I used to clean...

    cold betta

I wish I knew! With my first betta, I got a 5g without even looking at the 10 g because I assumed it would be cheaper. Later on I realized the 10 g was cheaper. My current betta is in a 10 g.

    Betta needs HELP!

I am so sorry that you and Tiber are going through this. It's really hard to say what would be the right thing to do. If he's having trouble swimming up to get air, maybe it would be best to euthanize him rather than letting him suffocate. What a tough situation.

    cold betta

I've found that when I moved my first betta from an unheated 1 gal to a heated 5 gal, he was much more colourful and active. I think temperature really makes a great difference. I read somewhere that it's impossible to heat a tank less than 5 gallons safely, but other people say it can be...

Shedding ADF or is she sick???

My ADFs have occasionally changed colour, becoming lighter or darker. If the tank parms are good and she's behaving normally, she's almost certainly fine. ADFs may shed as often as every week, but usually they eat the shed skin so you won't see it unless you're lucky. Shed skin pic from...

    Nitrate ...

How high are your nitrates? Products will only remove so much. Check the label, it may say how many ppm nitrate it can remove.

    Betta with body modification fetish

I've heard of other animals (birds, cats) self-mutilating due to stress. (This happened to a cat of mine years ago--after I spent a week in hospital, he started attacking his own tail the night I came home. I tried to stop him took him in to the vet first thing in the morning, but he had already...

    Reptiles with FISH????

I've read that fire-bellied toads should not be kept with other animals because they contain natural toxins which could harm other species. Today at a local petstore I saw a Chinese water dragon frolicking (?) in a mostly shallow-water tank. Although this species would be too large for your...

    Evaporated

I'm finding that water is evaporating more rapidly during the dry winter months. Also, my cats help lower the water level--they think the HOB is a drinking fountain. Do you have cats or dogs who could be taking a sip?

    Reptiles with FISH????

When I used to frequent http://talkto.thefrog.org/, most of them seemed to be vehemently opposed to mixing frogs with other animals or even with different species of frogs. Research the animals you are considering very thoroughly and make sure the needs of all will be met.

    Fish school

I ordered the e-book, and am currently trying to train a goldfish. One of the fish on that site has been accepted in the Guinness Book of World Records as the trained fish with the most tricks--a new category they created just for him.

I've heard that Bio Spira is illegal in Canada. Don't know if that's true or not. I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

    Ph?

You could try visiting the websites of the companies that make aquarium buffers to see if they specify the ingredients and concentrations. But please don't assume that just because someone has been to college that they know what is safe for fish.

Need cleaning advice for old tank

I've heard that you can use salt to scrub the tank if need be. (I'm assuming it's a glass tank.) Whatever you use, rinse, rinse, and rinse some more with plain water. If you use a bleach solution, get plain bleach, not lemon scented or with other additives. And don't use soap! Good luck!

The guy at my LFS said to put table salt in my tank.

Table salt is not pure sodium chloride. My package of table salt lists calcium silicate, invert sugar, and potassium iodide on the label as well. As others have said, save the aquarium salt for if your fish need it.

    Betta Pelvic Fin Problem

Hi Bridget, I'm sorry your betta isn't feeling well. It sounds to me more like an injury than finrot if only the pelvic fins are affected. Are there any plastic plants in the tank? I found out the hard way that plastic plants can tear a betta's fins :(. Does the Colisseum have any rough...
